SPECIES, AUTHORITY A. stellatus Debey & von Ettingshausen 1857, p. 212, pl. 3, figs. 2, 3.
LOCATION Germany, Aachen region
ORIG DESCRIPTION* An Aecidites with some 5-7 pseudoperidia concentrated into irregularly star-shaped groups that are disposed on the lower surface of dicotyledonous leafs.
COMMENTS* (slightly condensed): On the lower side of a leaf imprint of Dryophyllum sp., a number of imprints of about the size of a pin head are arranged into round groups. Each group consists of some 5-7 units that are arranged like a cluster of stars and usually are located near one of the secondary veins. These groups are too regular to represent accidental scatterings of e.g. small seeds. On the other hand, fungi of modern genera like Aecidium or Roestelia leave bowl-shaped remnants of peridia on infected leafs that show close similarity to the elements found on the fossil leafs.
