FIGURE REFERENCE Song Z, Cao L. 1994. Late Cretaceous fungal spores from King George Island, Antarctica; Stratigraphy and Palaeontology of Fides Peninsula, King George Island, Antarctica, Monograph 3, p. 47-49.
SPECIES, AUTHORITY A. megaporus (Song & Cao) Jansonius, Hills & Hartkopf-Fröder, 1998, card no. 5071.
LOCATION King George Island, Antarctica.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Dolium or cupula-shaped in outline, with a nearly equal width in two terminal ends, slightly curved in two sides; size of holotype 43 x 28 µm; one pore, about 11 µm in diameter, and slightly undulated in margin; one-celled; exine solid, about 1 µm in thickness, levigate, dark in color.

EMENDED DESCRIPTION (Jansonius et al.): Tricellate or tetracellate spores, diporate; pore at distal (widest) end small; distal face tends to be flattened; spores broad, with lower (widest) part of spore not tapering much in proximal direction, resulting in a nearly cylindrical shape (with rounded corners); the proximal cell(s) tend to become separated from the spore by splitting along the septa, resulting in a straight, flat top (proximal) surface that the original authors mistook as representing a large pore (for which the species was named). [See Pl. 9, fig. 36.]
COMMENTS* Named for the large size of the pore. (Jansonius et al.): Differs from other species of Anatolinites in tending to have a nearly flat distal polar area.
