ORIG DESCRIPTION* ORIGINAL DIAGNOSIS: Fossil pycnidia, semi-immersed, containing numerous conidia; pycnidial wall composed of two or three layers of thick-walled cells; conidiogenous cells ampliform; conidia hyaline, globose, smooth, aseptate.
COMMENTS* As for the type species.

Etymology: From Greek arche (primitive) and Phoma (extant genus name).
