ORIG DESCRIPTION* ORIGINAL DIAGNOSIS: Colony epiphytic, branched. External mycelium developed, not obliterated. Stigmocysts intercalary, stigmopodia unicellular or bicellular. K&J REMARKS Jansonius & Hills (1976, card no. 181) remarked: "Two species described; until one of these is selected as type species, the genus is not validly published (ICBN, Art. 37). The genus seems to be intended for mycelia, rather than definite fruiting bodies".
TYPE TYPE: Asterinites colombiensis Doubinger & Pons 1973, p. 234, pl. 2, figs. 1-6 [lectotype, here designated; the type is curated in the collections of the Palynology Laboratory of the Geological Institute of Strasbourg (CNRS)].
