SPECIES, AUTHORITY A. menonii (Jain & Gupta) Kalgutkar & Jansonius 2000
LOCATION Padappakkara, Quilon, Western Ghats, South India.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Ascomata flattened, circular, ostiolate, 40-60 µm in diameter, solitary, margin entire; hyphae radially arranged, interconnected, forming pseudoparenchymatous cells; central cells squarish, marginal rectangular, walls thin. Ostiole well-defined, 8-10 µm in diameter, centrally placed, not surrounded by any specialized cells, margin lobed. This simple ostiole is formed probably by the dissolution of the central cells of the ascomata. Free hyphae are either truly lacking or not preserved. Ascospore unknown.
COMMENTS* Paramicrothallites menonii closely resembles P. spinulatus (Dilcher 1965) Jain & Gupta 1970 in its shape, size range, radiating nature and by specialized cells surrounding the ostiole. However, P. menonii can be distinguished from P. spinulatus in the absence of a two-layered stroma with basal echinations on the margins.
