ORIG DESCRIPTION* Apolar, radiosymmetric, oval, 25 x 19 µm, inaperturate [aperturate?]. Exine less than 1 µm thick, psilate, dark brown.
COMMENTS* The specific name is in reference to the oval shape of the sporomorphs.

K&J REMARKS The illustrated figure (pl. 1, fig. 10) distinctly shows the presence of an aperture (or hilum) at one end. It is more suitably included in the fossil fungal genus Monoporisporites. In this genus, the binomial M. ovalis is preoccupied, and its junior nomenclatural homonym would be illegitimate; hence a new specific epithet is here assigned.
