SPECIES, AUTHORITY P. turaensis Kar, Singh & Sah 1972, p. 149, pl. 2, fig. 17.
LOCATION Damalgiri, Garo Hills, Assam, India.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Ascomata circular to subcircular, ostiolate, mostly dark brown, one-layered, 40-80 µm. Hyphae in the central part arranged to form a pseudoparenchymatous structure which is distinct from peripheral tissue. Development of radially elongated cells from central polygonal ones is gradual. Outer peripheral cells generally more thickened and provided with spine-like projections; spines are very well developed, up to 6 µm [?; in original: "60 µm"!] long with bulbous base and pointed tip. In some specimens, a few stromata are found together. Polygonal to rounded cells in central region are bigger than the rest and may form an ostiolate structure.
COMMENTS* Parmathyrites indicus Jain & Gupta 1970 resembles closely the present species in shape, nature of spines and size range, but is distinguished by its presence of radially elongated cells, even in the central region. Moreover, the cells in the central region in the present species are comparatively larger than in P. indicus.

K&J REMARKS There is no indication in the figure that the spines are up to 60 µm long, and treat this as a typographic error; they appear shorter than those in Parmathyrites sp. (pl, 2, fig. 18). When occurring in clusters, specimens adjoining each other do not develop projections along the joint boundary (see holotype).
