SPECIES, AUTHORITY P. subglobosus (Zhang) Kalgutkar & Jansonius 2000
LOCATION Niubao Formation, Lunpola Basin, northern Xizang Plateau, Xizang, China.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Inaperturate fungal spores consisting of three cells, outline of the spores elongated elliptical and their size 9.4-14.3 x 21.6-33.3 µm (two specimens). Individual cells subglobose and of similar size. Spore wall 0.5 µm thick, surface psilate to scabrate. Two transverse septa are present; the septa are distinct and 0.7-1.2 µm wide. The spore is conspicuously constricted in the areas of the transverse septa.
COMMENTS* Multicellaesporites capsularis Sheffy & Dilcher (1971, p. 44, pl. 14, fig. 50; pl. 16, fig. 50) bears some resemblance to this new species in that its spores also consist of four cells [sic] and have a fusiform shape. The former spores, however, differ from the new species described here in that they are of a smaller size. In addition, the cells in the middle of the former spores are larger than those of the species described here, and they also overlap the comparatively small cells at the ends of the spore.

K&J REMARKS The flat spot at one end of the type specimen indicates the presence of a hilum; accordingly, Kalgutkar and Jansonius (2000) transferred the species to Pluricellaesporites.
