SPECIES, AUTHORITY Q. lageniformis (Zhang) Kalgutkar & Jansonius 2000
LOCATION Niubao Formation, Lunpola Basin, northern Xizang Plateau, Xizang, China.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Fungal spores that consist of 11-13 cells and have two germinal apertures [terminal pores]; shape of the spores lageniform, their size ranging 14.1-19 x 66.7-80 µm (two specimens). Most of the constituent cells are transversely rectangular, but they become longitudinally rectangular [and tapering] toward the apical end of the spore. The apertures are located at the ends of the spore, and the external walls of the cells that bear the apertures are often thinner. External wall of the spore 0.5-0.7 µm thick, with a psilate to scabrate surface. Ten to 12 transverse septa are present; these septa are distinct and straight, and sometimes an interconnected series of fissure-like pores can be seen.
COMMENTS* This new species is separated from all other known species of this genus by the distinctive lageniform outline of its spores.
