LOCATION
(Elsik & Jansonius, Norris) Mackenzie Delta Region, District of Mackenzie, N.W.T., Canada.
ORIG DESCRIPTION
*
Spores four- or five-celled; two basal cells darker, thicker-walled than others; overall shape ovoid, with one or two appended terminal cells; pore may be covered or enclosed by a minute, thin-walled "porecell"; septa distinct, thick, perforate; basal outline in holotype slightly uneven as a result of a torn spore wall; wall psilate. Size of holotype about 34 x 22 µm.
COMMENTS
*
Differs from Brachysporisporites cotalis in lack of concavity of outline in upper part of spore; also, in larger size and wider shape. The intraspecific variability among Recent fungal spores is not adequately known; however, fungal spores from one fruiting body apparently are at least somewhat variable in number of cells and overall size.
Derivation of name: from Latin opimus, fat.
