K&J REMARKS Through lack of typographic organization and punctuation, it was not clear which of two illustrated specimens (fig. 14 or fig. 16) is the type specimen of Pleosporonites ovoideus. Dr. Salard-Cheboldaeff (letter to JJ, 99 02 25) confirmed that fig. 14 shows the holotype in two focal levels. Kalgutkar and Jansonius (2000) consider that the species is conspecific with Dictyosporites ovoideus, and that Pleosporonites ovoideus is a junior taxonomic synonym of the latter (and after the transfer, a junior homonym as well). The types of both show the pores that are mentioned in the description of D. ovoideus only. Both types would appear to have more than the eight cells specified in their descriptions. Both type specimens are included in Kalgutkar and Jansonius's (2000) Plate 15, fig. 30. The description of Pleosporonites ovoideus is given under that name in Kalgutkar and Jansonius (2000) .
