SPECIES, AUTHORITY
D. dilcheri (Chandra et al.) Kalgutkar & Jansonius 2000
LOCATION
Cores from the Arabian Sea, type locality Core no. 1.
ORIG DESCRIPTION
*
Biconvex, lanceolate fungal spores with both apices pointed, size range 33-55 x 17-22 µm; unicellate, inaperturate, spore wall 0.5 µm thick, psilate.
COMMENTS
*
The present species is comparable with Inapertisporites reticulatus Shefffy & Dilcher 1971 in having almost similar shape and size. However, latter is easily distinguishable by its reticulate spore wall. Inapertisporites ellipticus differs by having folded spore wall. From the other species of Inapertisporites, I. dilcheri can be differentiated by its characteristic biconvex shape.
Named in honor of Dr. D.L. Dilcher, Department of Botany, Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana.

K&J REMARKS
The holotype is clearly tetracellate and here is reassigned to Diporicellaesporites. It is poorly preserved, and therefore conceivably could be a jr. synonym of a species in that genus.
