FIGURE REFERENCE Cookson IC. 1947. Fossil fungi from Tertiary deposits in the southern hemisphere. Part I; Proceedings of the Linnean Society of New South Wales, v. 72, p. 207-214.
SPECIES, AUTHORITY E. oleinitis Cookson 1947a, p. 210, pl. 12, fig. 13.
LOCATION Australia, New Zealand and the Kerguelen Archipelago.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Amphigenous; ascomata scattered, brown, 226-540 x 90-160 µm, elliptical, forked or triradiate with rounded ends, dehiscing by a longitudinal slit along the length of the ascoma; cells cubical to rectangular, 5-10.5 µm long and 2.5-5.0 µm thick, rather thick-walled. Mycelial hyphae non-hyphopodiate, brown, 3-4 µm thick, straight, radiating from the marginal cells of the ascoma.
COMMENTS* On leaves of Oleinites willsii from Yallourn and Hazelwood, Victoria.

It is of interest to note that two living species with linear ascomata and a persistent mycelium have been recorded on extra-Australian oleaceous leaves. They are Aulographum hederac Lib. var. oleae Sacc. and Lembosiopsis oleae (Tracy and Earle) Theiss.; both agree with Euthythyrites oleinites in having a non-hyphopodiate mycelium.
