SPECIES, AUTHORITY F. indicus Ramanujam & Srisailam 1980, p. 124, pl. 1, fig. 11.
LOCATION Cannanore beach area, Palayangadi and Cheruvattur (southern side of Karingottu River), Kerala State, India; locality: Palayangadi.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Spores elongated, light to dark brown, 5-septate, 68-74.8 x 15-20.4 µm, slightly constricted at central part, central two cells large, elongated, 20.4 x 17 µm, end cells relatively small, 10.2 x 5.1 µm, cells in between of medium size, 17 x 10.2 µm, septa thick, conspicuous; spore wall 1.7 µm thick, no vertical septa in the terminal cells, surface conspicuously foveolate, foveolae irregularly aligned, larger [ones] 2.5 µm in diameter in central cells, slightly smaller in the end cells.
COMMENTS* The presence of fewer septa, the elongated nature of the central two cells and the absence of vertical septa in the terminal cells are the diagnostic features of this species [that distinguish it from F. miocenicus]. This is an occasional element of Palayangadi samples.
