ORIG DESCRIPTION* ORIGINAL DIAGNOSIS: (English translation, l.c., p. 158): Mycelium tube-shaped, without septa, straight or gently curving, bifurcating either once or not. Hypha with intercalary swelling, containing variously shaped spores with nodular protuberances.

Preserved in cells of [marine] Permocalculus and Gymnocodium, and likely belonging to parasitical phycomycetous fungi.

Monotypic.

K&J REMARKS Due to time restraints, Kalgutkar and Jansonius (2000) were unable to have the Chinese description of the type species translated into English. Interested readers may refer to the original paper.

From the figures (pl. 1, figs. 1-7) it appears likely that the host filaments are infected with resting spores of Chytridiales parasitic on algae. Parasitic chytrids can cause hypertrophy in infected areas, much as the intercalary swelling in the hyphal region shown here.
