K&J REMARKS "The smaller cells appear thinner and lighter than the three larger cells, and may be incidental contaminants, rather than structurally being part of the chain. Eisenack suggested affinity to the Algae; Kalgutkar and Jansonius (2000) consider this form a possible multicelled fungal spore." [Jansonius & Hills (1982), card no. 3982.]
