K&J REMARKS Salard-Cheboldaeff & Locquin (1980) assigned three species to the generic name "Hypoxylonites", but did not provide a diagnosis for this genus. Thus, the generic name was not validly published in 1980, and neither were the species then assigned to it. Dr. Salard-Cheboldaeff (e-mail to JJ, 99 01 13) kindly informed Kalgutkar and Jansonius that the type specimen is stored in the Laboratoire de Paléontologie, Muséum national d"Histoire naturelle, 8 rue Buffon, Paris 75005, France; she here proposes to validly publish its specific name. The term "lirellée" in the original description should be translated as "sulculate", fide Mme Salard-Cheboldaeff (e-mail 99 06 24: "sulculée"); Kalgutkar and Jansonius (2000) use the equivalent "furrowed."
TYPE H. elongatus Salard-Cheboldaeff & Locquin 1980, p. 185, pl. 1, fig. 14 (nom. nud.); holotype nr. 6.A.
