LOCATION The Green River Section, Washington.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Aseptate, psilate fungal spores with a single straight, parallel furrow that reaches the ends of the spore and wraps around to the other side. Outline narrowly elliptical with rounded ends; the sides of the spore are parallel along the middle of the spore. Overall size 14 x 28 µm; wall ca. 0.75 µm, of uniform thickness.
COMMENTS* Hypoxylonites fusiformis is smaller with more narrowly pointed ends than H. armentroutii. Hypoxylonites eocenicus is about the same size but has a more fusiform shape.

Derivation: Named in honor of John M. Armentrout.
