SPECIES, AUTHORITY H. asymetricus (Salard-Cheboldaeff & Locquin) Elsik 1990a, p. 146.
LOCATION (Salard-Cheboldaeff & Locquin) Coast of Equatorial Africa, Gulf of Guinea, Cameroon.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Spore aseptate, inaperturate, smooth, 25-27 x 12 µm; spore wall 2-layered.

EMENDED DESCRIPTION (Elsik 1990a, p. 146): Aseptate, psilate fungal spores ca. 12 x 24 µm overall. Outline reniform in side view, one side less convex and almost straight. Outline elliptical in top view, ends narrowly rounded. Spore wall ca. 0.5 µm at the ends of the spore, ca. 0.5-1.0 µm elsewhere except perhaps along the straighter side. The originally described spore wall of two layers is an expression of the overlapping edges of the furrow, which traverses most of the length of the more convex side of the spore.
COMMENTS* (Salard-Cheboldaeff & Locquin): Affinity: Ascomycetes.

(Elsik): Hypoxylonites asymetricus has a more asymmetrical outline than H. brazosensis. The second illustration included under Inapertisporites asymetricus by Salard-Cheboldaeff & Locquin (op. cit., fig. 12) shows no evidence of a furrow, and accordingly is excluded from the species.
