SPECIES, AUTHORITY
H. chuittensis Elsik 1990a, p. 147, pl. 2, fig. 57.
LOCATION
Southern Alaska.
ORIG DESCRIPTION
*
Aseptate, aporate, psilate fungal spores with a single linear furrow. The furrow is ca. 8-10 µm long. The side of the spore bearing the furrow can be slightly less convex than the other side of the spore. The spore outline is elliptical, with somewhat sharply rounded ends imparting a robustly fusiform shape to the spore. Overall size of the spore is ca. 9 x 14 µm. The spore wall is slightly thicker than 0.5 µm, thickening to ca. 1 µm at the ends of the spore.
COMMENTS
*
Hypoxylonites chuittensis is similar to both Hypoxylonites felixii and H. miocenicus but is much smaller in size. The spore wall is much thinner in Hypoxylonites chuittensis than in H. megaexinus.
Derivation: Named for its occurrence in strata penetrated by the Superior # 1 Chuitt River, Alaska.
