SPECIES, AUTHORITY H. curvatus (Ramanujam & Rao) Elsik 1990a, p. 148.
LOCATION Aleppey; Quilon and Warkalli beds of Kerala State along the west coast of South India.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Spores diporate, darkish brown, elliptical to slightly elongated and curved, 14 x 7.5 µm. A single pore on opposite ends of spore along its vertical axis, pore rounded, simple, not pouting; spore wall two-layered, up to 1.5 µm thick, surface psilate.
COMMENTS* The slightly curved nature of the elliptical spores and the simple pores are characteristic of this species. Diporisporites elongatus van der Hammen 1954 is more elongated than the South Indian species. Common in both Quilon and Warkalli beds.

(Elsik): The spores were described as 7.5 x 14 µm; measurement of the holotype illustration at the magnification stated on the plate legend yields ca. 21 x 38 µm. The spore wall is noted to be 1.5 µm and of two layers, but the overlapping sides of the furrow could impart the layering effect. Apparently there is a furrow between the aporate ends of the spore along the straight side.

This species is in need of revision, i.e. emendation. If its size is really 7.5 x 14 µm it is very similar to Hypoxylonites claibornensis, except that the wall of Hypoxylonites curvatus is thicker.
