SPECIES, AUTHORITY H. elongatioides Elsik 1990a, p. 148, pl. 2, fig. 82.
LOCATION Tennessee, USA.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Aseptate, psilate fungal spores ca. 6-8 x 11-14 µm overall. Outline elliptical with smoothly rounded ends. Spore wall ca. 1.0 µm thick, interrupted by a straight furrow 2/3 to 3/4 of the length of the spore. Furrow gaping or unsplit.
COMMENTS* The outline of Hypoxylonites elongatioides is more smoothly rounded over the ends, probably due to the shorter furrow, than the outline of Hypoxylonites elongatus (Rouse 1962) comb. nov., emend. Hypoxylonites pirozynskii and H. pirozynskioides have thinner walls.

Derivation: Named for its similarity to Hypoxylonites elongatus (Rouse 1962) comb. nov., emend.
