SPECIES, AUTHORITY H. eopleistocenicus Elsik 1990a, p. 149, pl. 2, figs. 99a-b.
LOCATION Gulf Coast.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Aseptate, aporate, psilate fungal spores with one linear furrow reaching the ends of the spore. The outline is elliptical but the shape is reniform because the side bearing the furrow is less convex. Overall size is ca. 10 x 20 µm. The spore wall is 1 µm or slightly less; the wall can be as thin as 0.25 µm in the area around the furrow.
COMMENTS* Hypoxylonites eopleistocenicus has a thicker spore wall and lacks the faint transverse ribbing seen in Hypoxylonites pleistocenicus. Otherwise the two species are very similar.

Derivation: Named for its similarity to Hypoxylonites pleistocenicus.
