LOCATION The Gulf Coast.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Reniform, bilateral, aseptate, psilate fungal spores with a longitudinal furrow the length of the grain, bordered by folds in the spore wall. Ca. 15-17 x 30-34 µm overall; spore wall 1 µm or slightly less. Ends subrounded; outline somewhat fusiform in polar view. Pigments generally very dark.
COMMENTS* Differentiated from Hypoxylonites ovalis and H. pirozynskii on its much larger size.

Derivation: Named for the folds of the spore wall.
