SPECIES, AUTHORITY H. lineatus Elsik 1990a, p. 151, pl. 1, fig. 26.
LOCATION The Gulf Coast.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Bilateral, psilate fungal spores with subpointed apices and a furrow the length of the spore on one face. Size ca. 9-11 x 23-29 µm overall; thickness of the spore wall 0.5 µm or less, increasing to ca. 1 µm or less at the apices.
COMMENTS* Differentiated from Hypoxylonites fusiformis on larger size, irregularly elongate shape and the slightly thickened apices. Sah (1968) illustrated as "Fungal spore type-2" spores resembling H. lineatus but their size range is much larger and the apices are somewhat more broadly rounded.

Derivation: Named for the long straight furrow, i.e. like a line.
