LOCATION The Gulf Coast.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Aseptate, psilate fungal spores ca. 9.5 x 17 µm overall. Outline elliptical with roundly fusiform ends; shape somewhat less convex on the face bearing the single furrow. Furrow narrow to gaping and 12-14 µm long. The spore wall is ca. 1.5 µm thick; thickened to ca. 2.5 µm at the ends of the spore.
COMMENTS* Hypoxylonites megaexinus has a much thicker wall than Hypoxylonites ovalis.

Derivation: Named for the relative thickness of the spore wall.
