SPECIES, AUTHORITY H. miocenicus Elsik 1990a, p. 153, pl. 2, figs. 97a-97b.

ORIG DESCRIPTION* Aseptate, aporate, psilate fungal spores bearing a single linear furrow. Outline elliptical with sharply rounded ends; the shape is robustly uniform. The furrow extends to the ends, or almost to the ends, of the spore. Overall size is ca. 12-13 x 20-22 µm. The spore wall is ca. 0.8 µm; it is 0.5 µm or thinner over the surface around the furrow, and thickened to ca. 1 µm at the ends of the spore.
COMMENTS* Hypoxylonites miocenicus is smaller than Hypoxylonites felixii. Both species have similar shapes.

Derivation: Named for its occurrence in the Miocene.
