ORIG DESCRIPTION

Reniform to oval, bilateral, aseptate, psilate fungal spores with a longitudinal furrow nearly the full length of the spore on the somewhat straighter face. One side of the furrow is generally folded. Overall size 7-8 x 16-17 µm; spore wall ca. 0.75 µm.
COMMENTS
*
Hypoxylonites ovalis is uniformly larger than Hypoxylonites pirozynskii. Sah (1968) illustrated similar forms as "Fungal spore Type-1", but with a somewhat greater size range.
Derivation: Named for the oval shape.
