ORIG DESCRIPTION

Aseptate, psilate fungal spores ca. 8 x 17.5 µm overall. Outline somewhat fusiform-elliptical in top view, reniform in side and oblique view. The longitudinal furrow is narrow to gaping, reaching to 2 µm of the ends of the spore. The outline of the spore is slightly convex on the furrowed side, more roundly convex on the side opposite the furrow. The spore wall is 0.25-0.5 µm.

The outline of Hypoxylonites ovaloides is more reniform than in Hypoxylonites ovalis.
Derivation: Named for its similarity to Hypoxylonites ovalis.
