ORIG DESCRIPTION* Aseptate, psilate fungal spores ca. 10-12 x 23-25 µm overall. Outline in side or oblique view elliptical, interrupted on one side by a longitudinal furrow which is straight to slightly convex; ends of the spore rounded to almost narrowly rounded. Furrow is 17-19 µm long. Spore wall 0.5-1 µm thick, generally less than 1 µm and as thin as 0.25 µm, evidently thinning in a narrow band around the furrow.
COMMENTS* Hypoxylonites tennesseensis is similar to but smaller than H. chaiffetzii. Hypoxylonites ramanujamii is much more robust.

Derivation: Named for its occurrence in Tennessee.
