SPECIES, AUTHORITY H. truncatus Elsik 1990a, p. 158, pl. 2, fig. 79.
LOCATION The Gulf Coast.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Aseptate, psilate fungal spores ca. 8-10 x 18-19 µm overall. Outline elliptical in a fusiform fashion; narrowly rounded at one end and truncated at the other end by a 2-3 µm attachment scar. The longitudinal furrow is a narrow slit ca. 10 µm long. The spore wall is 0.25-0.5 µm, occasionally folded.
COMMENTS* Hypoxylonites truncatus has a thinner spore wall and shorter furrow than Hypoxylonites wolfei. In the latter, the furrow traverses the full length of the spore.

Derivation: Named for the truncated outline.
