LOCATION Puryear clay pit, one-half mile south of Puryear, Henry County, Tennessee, USA.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Egg-shaped, unicellular, with flattened apex. Psilate, inaperturate, wall 0.5-1.0 µm thick. Size ranges from 4.8 x 9.2 to 14.5 x 19.3 µm (three specimens). Holotype: 4.8 x 9.2 µm.

PUBLICATION REFERENCE Sheffy MV, Dilcher DL. 1971. Morphology and taxonomy of fungal spores; Palaeontographica, Abt. B, v. 133 p. 34-51.
K&J REMARKS The size given for the holotype (the smallest of the range cited) identifies it among the three illustrated specimens (the smallest photograph is mounted lower left; the measurements given by the authors for the holotype closely match the proportions shown by the lower right specimen in the figure with photographed specimens). The original line drawings are very crude interpretations of the photographs.

Elsik (1990a, p. 165) designated the upper specimen of the three here illustrated as holotype of the species Spirotremesporites subovoideus.
