LOCATION Kanguk Peninsula, Axel Heiberg Island, Northwest Territories, Canada.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Spores dark brown, unicellular, subglobose, monoaperturate, oval to elliptical, smooth; spores slightly narrowing and notched at the pore end. Pore minute, less than 1 µm wide, at narrow end, surrounded by a rim of 1 µm width. Spore size 15-23 x 12-15 µm.
COMMENTS* Monoporisporites abruptus Sheffy & Dilcher 1971 is smaller and abruptly tapering at the end subtending the pore.

Etymology: Named for dark or blackish color of spores.
