K&J REMARKS Staphlosporonites elsikii Ramanujam & Srisailam 1980 shows the morphological characters described as diagnostic for the genus Staphlosporonites Sheffy & Dilcher 1971, particularly the distinguishing feature of cells arising in clusters with variable shapes along more than one axis. Multicellaesporites, on the other hand, is characterized by cells with various shapes arranged along a single long axis. The reassignment of the species to the latter genus seems unwarranted. Kalgutkar and Jansonius (2000) do not accept the transfer of this species to Multicellaesporites; the description of this species is given under Staphlosporonites elsikii, which is Kalgutkar and Jansonius's (2000) preferred designation for this taxon.
