SPECIES, AUTHORITY M. didymus (Sheffy & Dilcher) Kalgutkar & Jansonius 2000
LOCATION Puryear clay pit, one-half mile south of Puryear, Henry County, Tennessee, USA.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Tetracellate spore 6.8 x 21.3 µm, psilate, inaperturate. Constricted in center, triseptate, equatorial septum thick, opaque. Light pigment, wall 0.5 µm thick. Longitudinal walls of center cells slightly convex.
COMMENTS* The specific name didymus means twin or similar pairs, referring to the two pairs of cells separated by the equatorial constriction. This spore resembles an unidentified spore illustrated by Wolf (1966b, pl. 3, no. 34), but is somewhat smaller.

K&J REMARKS The specific epithet can be a noun in apposition, or be treated as an adjective. Kalgutkar and Jansonius (2000) consider the epithet to be adjectival.
