ORIGINAL DIAGNOSIS: Lepidodendron wood is commonly seen to be invaded by fungi. We draw attention to those among these that make up the new genus Oochytrium, which is characterized by: slender, branching mycelia [rhizomycelia] that occur, singly or grouped in considerable numbers, in the vessels of certain Lepidodendrons the branches of which are often terminated in ovoid or spherical sporangia that are surmounted by a rostrum. The protoplasm can be seen, more or less contracted, inside the smooth or finely granulate sporangial wall.
Monotypic.
