SPECIES, AUTHORITY P. vermiculus (Ediger) Kalgutkar & Jansonius 2000
LOCATION Thrace Basin, Turkey.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Uniseriate fungal spores; three or more cells, two or more septa. Cells are aligned along a line, nearly symmetrical around this long axis, flattened at boundary, convex on sides. First cell is rounded on three sides; last cell is hyaline and spherical. The septa are so thick that the entries from either side can be seen. There may be some irregularly distributed pits on the surface. Cell wall 1.5-3 µm thick, double layered; inner layer thinner than outer one, psilate to scabrate sculpture. Septa 2.5-5.5 µm thick, dark colored, formed by thickening of exine. Dimensions: variable, usually 10-19 x 21-45 µm.
COMMENTS* The overlapping features of cells, septal structure and hyaline spherical proximal cell separates this species from other species of Pluricellaesporites. Similar forms have been reported from Eocene-Oligocene beds of Ninetyeast Ridge, Indian Ocean Kemp (1978), from Miocene-Pliocene beds of British Columbia Martin & Rouse (1966), from Miocene-Turkey Nakoman (1968) and from Eocene-Hungary Kedves (1960).
