LOCATION
ORIG DESCRIPTION* ORIGINAL DIAGNOSIS: Fossil ascomata of dimidiate form with ascomal membranes of sinuous plectenchyma. Ascospore characters unknown.
COMMENTS* The family Micropeltaceae is distinguished from the Microthyriaceae and Trichopeltaceae by the non-radiate construction of the flattened ascomata. The structure of the ascomal membrane or "scutellum" varies within the family and provides the basis for its subdivision into three subfamilies (Stevans & Manter, 1925). Only one of these, namely, the Plochmopeltineae Theiss., is represented in the present collection. This subfamily contains a small number of living species, all of which are characterized by the sinuous plectenchymic structure of the "scutellum".
