SPECIES, AUTHORITY P. edigeri Kalgutkar & Jansonius 2000
LOCATION Northern Thrace Basin, Turkey.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* (Ediger & Alisan) Multicellate, uniseriate, inaperturate, elliptical fungal spores. One of the apical cells is hyaline and sometimes has an attached appendage or filament. The outermost septum may sometimes be very close to the apex forming a chamber-like structure at the apex. Size 28-31 x 67-77 µm.
COMMENTS* (Ediger & Alisan): Multicellaesporites elsikii differs from M. nortonii Elsik 1968, and M. pandus, M. ovatus, M. elongatus and M. attenuatus (all Sheffy & Dilcher 1971) by number and position of the septa. M. attenuatus is similar to M. elsikii, but differs by its smaller size. M. elsikii differs from Type-503 from the Upper Eemian deposits (van Geel et al., 1983) by having more than three septa.

Derivation of original name: In honor of Dr. William C. Elsik. [New name after V.S. Ediger, author of the homonym.]
