SPECIES, AUTHORITY
P. minutus (Trivedi & Verma) ex Kalgutkar & Jansonius 2000.
LOCATION
Near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
ORIG DESCRIPTION
*
Fungal spores two- to several celled, upper two cells more dense, basal cell gradually narrower ending into a short stalk, apical cell rounded, cross walls thick, two-lobed, dense, 30 µm in thickness, spore wall 1 µm thick, surface smooth. Length of an individual spore depends on the number of cells that go to compose the spore. Spores 30-40 µm in length, and 15-20 µm in breadth.

Wilson & Webster (1946) described Brachysporium sp. as follows: "The spore is composed of one to several cells and ranges from 30 to 76 micron in length depending upon the number of cells in the spores. In width the widest cell ranges from 38 to 40 micron. The largest cell, usually the terminal, is dense and dark brown. The cross walls are two lobed, each lobe being triangular in view. The surface of the spore is smooth." Brachysporium minutum sp. nov. resembles Brachysporium sp. closely except that the former is shorter and narrower. The specific name minutum is given because of the small size of these spores.

K&J REMARKS
The species Brachysporium minutum Trivedi & Verma 1970 was not validly published because two elements were included under the designation "HOLOTYPE". Here Kalgutkar and Jansonius (2000) designate fig. 4 as lectotype, and assign the species to Pluricellaesporites; it appears to be characterized by the small number (3-5) of septa, and the strong taper of the proximal cell. The type preparation, ML 51/2, is in the collection of Dr. B.S. Trivedi.
TYPE
Brachysporium minutum Trivedi & Verma 1970, p. 68, pl. 1, figs. 3-4 (nom. nud.); fig. 4 lectotype designated by Kalgutkar & Jansonius 2000.
