SPECIES, AUTHORITY R. differentialis (Ramanujam & Srisailam) Kalgutkar & Jansonius 2000
LOCATION Cannanore beach area, Palayangadi and Cheruvattur (southern side of Karingottu River), Kerala State, India; locality: Palayangadi.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Spores tetracellate, 25-35 x 7-8.5 µm with evenly spaced transverse septa, terminal two cells almost hyaline, 9 x 5.1 µm, tapering; central two cells brown, broader, 6.8 x 8.5 µm, septa dark band-like, up to 2.5 µm thick, wall 1.7 µm thick in terminal cells, thicker in central cells, surface psilate uniformly.
COMMENTS* The differences in the pigmentation, shape and wall thickness of the terminal two cells from the central two cells, constitute the diagnostic features of this species. The fossil spore shows striking resemblances with the conidia of some species of the modern dematiaceous fungus Spioropes, viz. S. effusus, S. clavatus etc. (Ellis, 1971). Multicellaesporites differentialis is a frequent element of the Palayangadi palynosamples.
