ORIGINAL DIAGNOSIS: Ascostromata subcircular or irregular in shape, dark brown, non-ostiolate, cells not arranged radially, porate, pores generally distributed throughout stromata, cells hexagonal, bigger towards periphery than in the central region; margin thick, wavy.
Monotypic.
COMMENTS
*
The present genus is distinguished from Phragmothyrites Edwards 1922, emend. Kar & Saxena 1976, and Microthyriacites Cookson 1947a by its non-radiating and hexagonal porate cells. Siwalikiathyrites Saxena & Singh 1983 resembles the present genus in having non-radial cells but differs in being aporate.

K&J REMARKS
The non-radial and aporate nature of Siwalikiathyrites ramanujamii Saxena & Singh 1983 (pl. 2, fig. 25) is not clear in the illustration of its holotype; the figure shows it to be radial, and some cells appear to be porate.
