SPECIES, AUTHORITY R. cerrejonensis (Doubinger & Pons) Kalgutkar & Jansonius 2000
LOCATION Cerrejon basin, Colombia, South America.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Elements inaperturate, smooth, brown, arranged in line and decreasing in size. There are generally 5 fine-walled cells. Length x width varies from 8-20 x 8-20 µm for each cell. The total length varies from 55-85 µm. The cells are very variable in form (spherical, oval, flat) and are always crushed. At the four septa, a pronounced constriction is apparent but is difficult to measure, and the entire structure is slightly arcuate (beaded forms). The smallest element is often less pigmented and continues as a filament of a sooty color. These forms appear to be aligned on the host cuticle. [Unedited translation from French; GSC Calgary Library, Translation No. 4047624.]
COMMENTS* Usually, species included in the genus Multicellaesporites do not have constriction this pronounced at the septa. [Unedited translation from French; GSC Calgary Library, Translation No. 4047624.]

K&J REMARKS The filamentous moniliform and multicellular spores comprising globose constricted cells in a uniserial chain, that tends to taper distally, suggest affinity to Reduviasporonites. In Cercosporites Salmon 1903, the smaller cell is a proximal hilate hold-fast.
