SPECIES, AUTHORITY Reticulatasporites Ibrahim 1933, p. 38
LOCATION
ORIG DESCRIPTION* ORIGINAL DIAGNOSIS: Spores without trilete mark, and with a measurable reticulate sculpture on the spore wall; meshes up to (or: as small as?) 1 µm. [Jansonius & Hills (1976), card no. 2362.]

EMENDED DIAGNOSIS (Potonié & Kremp 1954, p. 115): Outline subcircular, smooth to sinuous; surface sculptured with ± coarse reticulum, the large meshes commonly subdivided into smaller lumina by almost equally wide muri; often the muri appear braided or interwoven, often forming arches or similar patterns ± parallel to the outline, or spiralling. [Jansonius and Hills (1976), card no. 2362.]

K&J REMARKS Potonié & Kremp interpreted these forms as fungal remains. Laveine (1965, p. 2556) considered these forms to be the opercula of spores known as Vestispora Wilson & Hofmeister 1956. This view is now generally accepted. Although any fungal spore species assigned to this genus will be validly published (if all other conditions of the ICBN are met), eventually it would have to be transferred to another genus (of fungal spores).

Elsik (1992) made the comment that Reticulatasporites possesses meshes of two scales, a reticulum within a reticulum, which differentiates it from Asyregraamspora.
TYPE TYPE: Reticulatasporites facetus Ibrahim 1933, p. 38, pl. 5, fig. 36.
