SPECIES, AUTHORITY S. stoughiae (Elsik) Kalgutkar & Jansonius 2000
LOCATION Strip mine approximately 7 miles southwest of Rockdale, Milam County, Texas, USA.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Spatulate, psilate, monoporate fungal spores 6.5 x 11 µm, enclosed by a very thin folded layer 9 x 15 µm. The outer filmy layer may be lost in some specimens. Wall ca. 1 µm, thinning apically, thickest at base of spore. Inner wall two-layered, outer layer thickest. Apical pore ca. 0.5 µm. Spore wall is turned outward at 90 angle at pore, forming characteristic lip. No basal attachment area.
COMMENTS* Upon loss of the outer filmy layer this species may be differentiated by pronounced outward curvature of the spore wall lip around the pore.
