LOCATION
ORIG DESCRIPTION* ORIGINAL DIAGNOSIS: Scoleco-phragmospores of lengths 15-30x the breadth, the outline of walls and septa ladder-like.

Monotypic.

DIAGNOSIS AS EMENDED (Kalgutkar & Jansonius 2000): Long to very long, linear filamentous phragmospores, hilate, with or without distal pore; length many times width of spore. Spores scalariform, commonly broken and lacking proximal and/ or distal portions; wall and septa commonly thin; septa often with septal folds. Not or barely indented at septa.
COMMENTS* Phragmospores typically of more than 10 cells and typically with length greater than 4 times breadth.

K&J REMARKS The generic diagnosis is not clear on whether the spores are porate or not, and if porate, whether monoporate as in Pluricellaesporites or diporate as in Diporicellaesporites. The description of the type species Scolecosporites maslinensis refers to a narrow attachment cell, which suggests spores similar to those in Pluricellaesporites, having a pore or attachment cell at only one end.
TYPE TYPE: Scolecosporites maslinensis Lange & Smith 1971, p. 676, pl. 6, fig. E.
