SPECIES, AUTHORITY S. simplex Dueñas-Jimenez 1979, p. 564, pl. 3, fig. 5.
LOCATION Sabana de Bogota, Colombia.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* 9-10 x 20-40 µm (holotype 15 x 37 µm); unicellular, with a single groove running from pole to pole in a spiraling fashion; wall surface smooth, wall ca. 1 µm thick; in some grains one of the sides seems flatter than the other. [Jansonius & Hills (1980), card no. 3769.]

EMENDED DESCRIPTION (Elsik 1990a, p. 165): Aseptate, psilate, fungal spores with a narrowly elliptical to elongate fusiform outline. The outline is slightly reniform in side view due to the surface with the furrow being less convex than the opposite side of the spore. The aperture is an elongate, shallowly S-shaped furrow in plan view; the furrow is not trochoidal or spiral, it is apparently on one side of the spore. Overall size ca. 13 x 37 µm; wall thickness ca. 1.0 µm or less.
COMMENTS* (Elsik): Spirotremesporites simplex Dueñas-Jimenez 1979 is larger than Spirotremesporites disciformis. It is restricted to narrowly fusiform spores.
