FIGURE REFERENCE Selkirk DR. 1975. Tertiary fossil fungi from Kiandra, New South Wales; Proceedings of the Linnean Society of New South Wales, v. 100, p. 70-94.
SPECIES, AUTHORITY T. kiandrensis (Selkirk) Kalgutkar & Jansonius 2000
LOCATION Kiandra, New South Wales, Australia.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* Fructification rounded, margin entire to crenate, irregularly lobed. Central ostiole up to 17 µm diameter. Cells in the ostiole pale, thin-walled, isodiametric, surrounded by a prominent raised border of dark, thick-walled cells, square to rectangular, 1.5-5 µm long and 1.5-3.5 µm wide; border up to six cells wide. Walls of fructification of radiating hyphae, cells 2-11 µm long and 1-7 µm wide.
COMMENTS* This species occurs in close association with Callimothallus pertusus Dilcher 1965. Fructifications studied range from 140 to 330 µm diameter; their margin may be somewhat crenate. In older specimens the cell walls are thickened and darker. The raised border surrounding the ostiole is much darker than the rest of the wall in young specimens (pl. 9, fig. 3); in older specimens the border is difficult to discern against the dark thickened wall (pl. 9, fig. 1). Cells within the border break down to form the ostiole opening and fragments of them can be seen within the opening in some specimens. Notothyrites setifer, recorded from Kiandra in palynological residues (Cookson, 1947a), is much smaller than N. kiandrensis, with up to eight setae produced from cells of the raised border of the ostiole.

K&J REMARKS Reddy et al. 1982 proposed the combination Trichothyrites kiandrensis (Cookson), but did not provide the basionym or bibliographic details, and hence did not validly publish this combination.
