SPECIES, AUTHORITY T. pleistocaenicus Rosendahl 1943, p. 137, figs. 10-11 [lectotype, designated by Jansonius & Hills (1977), card no. 3424].
LOCATION Springfield, Minnesota, USA.
ORIG DESCRIPTION* As for the genus [combined description].
COMMENTS* Found on leaves of Black Spruce in association with an unknown fungus and on two species of hypnaceous mosses, in an Early Pleistocene deposit at Springfield, Minnesota.
PUBLICATION REFERENCE Rosendahl CO. 1943. Some fossil fungi from Minnesota; Bulletin of the Torrey Botanical Club, v. 70, p. 126-138.
K&J REMARKS Rosendahl did not designate a type specimen, but in a footnote stated that the combined description was "of mycelium drawn from fungus on moss plants". Material on a spruce leaf was obscured by tangled hyphae of other fungi present, and its structure therefore difficult to analyse. Figures 10 and 11 represent the only specimen illustrated from moss-leaf, and thus can be deduced to be the holotype specimen. [Jansonius & Hills (1977), card no. 3424.]

Rosendahl treated the gender of the generic name as feminine; however, the ICBN states that generic names ending in -ites are masculine.
