Duties and Responsibilities:
Project description
Dr. Julian Christians (Simon Fraser University) is inviting applications for a research assistant position examining associations between DNA methylation and gender-related variables. The project will use existing datasets to investigate associations between gendered exposures (e.g., variables related to caregiver strain, work strain, social support, and discrimination) and genome-wide measures of DNA methylation. The goal is to examine how gendered exposures and chromosomal sex independently or interactively affect health outcomes. The successful candidate will primarily be involved in the analysis of gendered exposures (and not the DNA methylation data), and will be expected to work on campus (SFU Burnaby) approximately 40% of the hours worked. Number of hours per week is negotiable.

Qualifications
- Expertise in gender studies, particularly the effects of gender on health, and/ or the effects of racial discrimination on health;
- R coding skills, with a strong preference for experience working with and cleaning large datasets, and/ or dimensionality reduction approaches, and/ or a demonstrated willingness and aptitude to learn statistical approaches;
- Preference will be given to applicants with a graduate degree in a relevant field;
- A record of scholarly publication, demonstrating excellent technical writing and research communication skills, is considered an asset.
